The Gender Differences in Problem-Solve
Monday, March 21, 2005
Aaarrgh.. is the common-intro word for people to express their problems. Life is not always smooth, sometimes ups and downs. It's not strange that people use the word such as Life of Rhyme, Life in Rhythm and Rhyme, Life without Rhyme, Real Life Rhyme, etc. Those words absolutely describe the journey of life which could be seen as a music possessing high and low tones. We have all got the problems in our lives regardless in what age we are. Of course, we all need solutions to deal with them. The interesting point here is how men and women have different ways to work out their problem-solving. Next, you'll find out why and how?
Gregg Fraley, a board member at the Creative Education Foundation in Hadley, Massachusetts, says that men's and women's brains are wired differently, so the approach to problems play itsel out like this:As a matter of fact, you can say I am a woman with 2 those kind of characteristics (point 1 and 3) although I don't totally agree with point no.3. For those who know me very well, I usually use the approach mixed between intuition and logics in solving the problem. So, I don't think I am a good sample for the theory above. It doesn't mean I am not a normal woman, does it???1. Women tend to have a more "adaptive", creative style; men a more innovative" style.
(Translation: Men may try to reinvent the wheel; women might simply try to make it better.)2. Women usually problem-solve collaboratively; men usually problem-solve competitively.
(Translation: Women almost always seek help from others; men tend to go it alone.)3. Women are likely to be better at playing around with an idea-talking about it, having fun with it; men get right down to analyzing the hard facts.
(Translation: Women generally approach problems intuitively; men tend to be more logical.)In the end, says Fraley, great solutions come from flashes of intuition and insight, which women's brains have been socially conditioned to respond to and recognize. But intuition is not enough. "Yes, you have to let ideas in," he says, "but you then have to apply the facts to arrive at a good solution. (... source: Woman's Day magazine, Apr '05 edition)
