The Apprentice 3 Review, Episode 12

Friday, April 15, 2005

Each team would create a marketing brochure for GM's newest car, the Pontiac Solstice, which one of the executives described as "a sexy, two-seat roadster." To help create their product, each team would have access to models, photographers, design studios and printing facilities. The team that created the most compelling brochure, as judged by the Pontiac executives, would win. The loser would return to the boardroom where another candidate would be fired. Carolyn and George would watch to see who was a driving force and who runs out of gas. Finally, Trump revealed that whoever becomes his apprentice would also get a brand-new Solstice fresh off the assembly line as a bonus!

After The Donald made his entrance, the Pontiac executives rendered their verdict. They said that Net Worth had delivered a lot of information but no emotion. Magna, on the other hand, had presented exactly what Pontiac was looking for. The team had delivered emotion and done so in a creative way. In fact, the executives said they liked the brochure so much, they planned on using it themselves! An executive called Magna the "slam dunk winner," which was appropriate since the team's reward was a trip to Madison Square Garden to meet with Isiah Thomas and several of the New York Knicks!

Later, at Trump Tower, Alex, Chris and Bren entered the boardroom and Trump reminded Chris that he had lost seven times in a row - an Apprentice record. Then, in the middle of the candidates fighting for their lives, Trump broke with tradition. In front of everyone, he asked his advisors whom they would fire. George and Carolyn agreed - they would both fire Chris. Trump nodded, taking the advice in, and turned to the candidates. He told Bren that his writing was absolutely terrible. Trump scolded Alex for doing nothing about the bad writing. But the person who was most responsible for what Trump called "a mess of a team" was Chris. So, Trump said, "Chris, you're fired." (NBC, April 14, 2005)

Finally it's time to say goodbye to Chris, a person who has an anger-management problem. I am glad the competition has been over for him after quite long expecting him to be gone soon. After the firing, the always emotional Chris broke down and could not help but cry. For the first time in "The Apprentice" history, a candidate broke down and sobbed in the boardroom. Donald Trump felt so bad that he called Chris over and gave him some advice. He told the teary Chris to watch his temper and stay away from tobacco. Bwuahahaha... I couldn't stop laughing to see this funny sentimental moment! "Poor crybaby, you should have grown up now"... My hubby then shut my mouth saying, "enough, quit teasing him!!"

After looking the way that Magna team did the task together in developing the brochure last night, I was beginning to question Tana's capability to become an Apprentice. Seemed she didn't support her Project manager, Kendra in this case, to finish the project which was supposed to get done together as a team no matter how late the time was. At this point, I was disappointed in her attitude. The other thing I didn't like to see when she stole a little moment doing a presentation at the beginning to impress the Pontiac executives that she was the one behind the design. Then Kendra took over the presentation which still didn't look right to me. I knew there was tension between them, but then they just looked fine after all.

Well, Tana is great though! but I think something wrong with her personality that I feel it just doesn't fit to be a good Apprentice. Now I am thinking to pick Kendra as a nominee to be Apprentice. She is smart, creative and competent. She also understands very well the concepts of marketing, although I have a little doubt in her leadership.

The existing candidates, down to five now, are:

1. Alex Thomason -- Net Worth -- (Seattle, WA) Prosecutor
2. Bren Olswanger -- Magna --(Memphis, Tenn.) Prosecutor
3. Craig Williams -- Magna --(Conley, Ga.) Shoeshine Business Owner
4. Kendra Todd -- Magna --(Boynton Beach, Fla.) Real Estate Broker
5. Tana Goertz -- Magna -- (Des Moines, Iowa) Sales Executive
