The Apprentice - Martha Stewart, episode 2
Category: Reality Show

For this season, NBC channel provides two different kinds of The Apprentice show produced by the same producer, Mark Burnett Productions. A new one called "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart" shows the competition to win the dream job of a lifetime working for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc and a hefty six-figure salary. The task for sure is related to Martha Stewart's area of expertise - publishing, apparel, entertainment and branding. The show is aired every Wednesday at 8/7c, unfortunately I missed the first episode.

The candidates are divided into two groups, Primarius and Matchstick, considering their two categorized different backgrounds as of entrepreneurial and creative types. I think it's understandable why women dominate the number of candidates whose 10 women out of 16 candidates. Not mean to making fun, I found most of the men behave feminine and talkative like a woman. Not sure either because of their creative type background or being born like that.

The task: Each team was to be given their own retail space to develop a flower business for a day. The team with the most revenue at the end of the day would win.

Matchstick team leaded by Chuck, who had experience in the flower business, came up with the idea to take aim at the florist who could get them fresh tulips from Holland. The marketing strategy they applied for were promoting their flower shop to guys in restaurants and nightclubs a night before the show time and hiring three girls to dress in Dutch-themed costumes to pass out fliers in the neighborhood and to attract customers to its store.

Primarius team arrived at the empty space that they were going to transform into a "gorgeous" flower shop and hit upon the idea of recruiting a celebrity florist to do their arrangements. Primarius passed out fliers to entice people into their shop. At the beginning, no customer was interested to buy their flowers. Definitely because of high set up price, one bouquet was selling for $150! Taking some advice from Rene, a celebrity florist, they removed and lowered the pricing signs... lo and behold! The flowers started to sell.

To make it short, the show ended up to Primarius as a winner of the day. They managed to take in $1,886, a good sum for a single day said Martha, meanwhile Matchstick only brought in $969. The reason is pretty clear to figure out that Chuck failed to be a leader who was supposed to organize his chaotic team into one vision.
