People in Many Characters

Thursday, February 24, 2005

Today the weather is cloudy with snow, even though the snow storm warning still remains in effect until tomorrow morning. It means I am not able to go anywhere but at home. It's supposed the day I take my English class as usual, unfortunately the policy tells us that the class will be closed on snowy day. That's fine with me, I can keep busy myself just staying at home.

Well, this time I'd like to talk about my yesterday's life when I found people in different characters. On my way driving to post office, I met an old lady with a fancy car from the opposite direction turning to the left right away with no yield for my straight-way. I pushed a brake suddenly to let her crossing away. I got confused asking to myself "What she is doing?" That lady kept staring at me like she was a queen in the city. I am pretty sure everyone knows exactly the general rule of driving in the area not controlled by traffic lights says that we must give the right-of-way for anyone who has a straight direction first.

In the bank, I met a nice teller lady when I was doing a check deposit. She talked to me for a little while," hi Ms. Darr, how're you doing? Where are you from?" I smiled at her saying "Hi, I am from Indonesia. Let me guess, you might say I am Filipino.. Where are you from?" She answered me with a big smile, "hahaha I thought so, well.. my country is nearby yours". With no more question, then I made a guess, "I know you are from Philippine, I can tell from your face". She said,"You are right, but sometimes people said I was from Thailand".

From the bank I continued driving to find a store where I'd never been there before. I got lost by entering the toll road when I was trying to find the way back to Fairfax Pkwy. While paying the toll fee, I asked the toll lady how to get back to that highway. Strangely, I had no idea why the India-toll lady didn't speak nicely in giving a direction.

In another trip while driving on two-ways road, I gave a stop before turning to the left because I saw a school bus stopped in the opposite direction to unload the children. The car right behind me kept turning the horn which was so annoying me. I talked to myself in the car, "Don't you see, there is a school bus with a stop sign". The driver looked so mad, pulled out the car and turned to the left sharply to stay away from the line. Gosshh, I found another evil person in the world??? To make sure I didn't make a mistake in giving a stop for a school bus, I read again the rules of the road from DMV soon I got back home. It's said "When approaching a school bus with flashing signals and an extended stop sign on a public or private road, you must stop until all children are clear of the road-way and the bus moves again. You do not have to stop, however, if you are traveling in the opposite direction on the roadways separated by a physical barrier or unpaved median area." In this case, I did the right thing because I was on the roadway with no physical barrier or unpaved median area so I have to give a stop until the bus moves again.

My yesterday's trip was ended up to Big Lots where I bought a sandwich bread . When I was taking a line to check out, a black lady behind me spoke politely to let me first go to another open-cashier before she did it. In return, I said, "that's okay, you can go ahead".

From my experiences in meeting some people in one day, I've found 5 characters here which are arrogant, nice, unfriendly, impatient (bad temper), polite. Isn't that interesting? Now, what lessons I can get from this subject?

Well, you have to deal with it no matter you like or dislike it because you live in the world where you share with the people in different personalities, unless you won't be survived at all. I believe God creates people with many characters in purpose to encourage people how to get along together to keep survived in this world. Can you imagine if the world would be full of nice people? Don't be silly... world is not heaven! Also imagine that only evil people stay in the world, neither the world is the hell! In conclusion, of my personal opinion, the world where we live is in between the heaven and the hell.
