Reaching For The Sky
Thursday, June 02, 2005
REACH by Gloria Estefan
Some dreams live on in time forever
Those dreams, you want with all your heart
And I'll do whatever it takes
Follow through with the promise I made
Put it all on the line
What I hoped for at last would be mine
If I could reach, higher
Just for one moment touch the sky
From that one moment in my life
I'm gonna be stronger
Know that I've tried my very best
I'd put my spirit to the test
If I could reach
Some days are meant to be remembered
Those days we rise above the stars
So I'll go the distance this time
Seeing more the higher I climb
That the more I believe
All the more that this dream will be mine
If I could reach, higher
Just for one moment touch the sky
From that one moment in my life
I'm gonna be stronger
Know that I've tried my very best
I'd put my spirit to the test
If I could reach
If I could reach, higher
Just for one moment touch the sky
I'm gonna be stronger
From that one moment in my life
I'm gonna be so much stronger yes I am
Know that I've tried my very best
I'd put my spirit to the test
If I could reach higher
If I could, if I could
If I could reach
Reach, I'd reach, I'd reach
I'd reach' I'd reach so much higher
Be stronger
This is one of my favorite songs I've never been bored to listen for. The song with patriotic rhythm which was premiered for the first time in NBC Olympic really inspires and gives spirit to most people, including me without question. I remember one of the fundamental concept that people at my ex-work, particularly Sales & Marketing Dept., always stress on while set up the target or goals is "Reaching For The Sky". To tell the truth, it really inspires me in doing anything I wish to have no matter it have failed or succeeded. Well, I think I have been quite familiar with this concept since my childhood, though it doesn't have to say in the same way but exactly it has the same meaning, for example:
General Rule:
Follow your dreams
Anais Nin:
Dreams are necessary to life.
Victor Hugo:
There is nothing like a dream to create the future.
Kahlil Gibran:
The most pitiful among men is he who turns his dreams into silver and gold.
I try here to keep track back what dreams I've ever had from childhood to adulthood:
Kindergarten-age: I wished to become a kindergarten teacher
Elementary school-age: I wished to become a dancer or a model (unfortunately, my physical body & appearance doesn't support my dream) and also to become a girl scouts' leader (well, I just finished the 2nd level)
Junior high school-age: I wished to study in a famous high-school and to reach the top-rank (well, I was satisfied just in the top-5 rank)
Senior high school-age: I wished to be a good accountant who makes a lot of money
Initial-work: I wanted to become a manager
Advanced-work: I wanted to be a top management and married to a good husband & have a wonderful family
Married life: I wish to ... ???
Yeah..isn't that interesting to know that life keeps going on and on, and circles around like a wheel. Fortune has turned, and the wheel continues to move. Sometimes up, sometimes down! Right now I feel being at the bottom of the wheel which in common word you would say the position of despair and loss of hope. I don't know for sure what makes my feeling so desperate this moment. One point I would say that life is under my expectation. I wonder why the spiritual words I always adopt in my life "Reaching For The Sky" doesn't motivate me any more. Seems it turns around to be "Reaching For The Floor" to me now. Anyhow, I hope my wheel soon turns to be up up again and rises in hopeful expectation as well.
