Tough Work Resolved!

Thursday, July 21, 2005

One interesting topic I read in a virtual club which I join since a year ago is about the right cleaner to clean a bathtub. Some people came up with their favorite brands such as Comet, Ajax, Mr. Clean, Kaboom, and so on. From their discussion and suggestion, I figured out that most of them pick Kaboom as the best cleaner they've ever used so far.

Yeah I have to say that cleaning a bathtub is a hard work to do among any other housework because it needs my energy a lot and takes at least 1 hour to get done. Acknowledged from that discussion forum, I was tempted to buy Kaboom from grocery and expecting to get the best one as what they conclude "Kaboom will make your bathtub sparkling". Doesn't it sound such a good promotion?

After cleaning done with a new cleaner, I was disappointed to find the result not done so well and even worse than I've ever had. Then I redid my work with the same cleaner I use to have without feeling regret too long. Anyway, I kept trying some different cleaners until I discovered that the point is not about the cleaner but the way you clean the bathtub. Well, I understand that level of "cleanness" is different for each person depends on how clean that person is, too. Here is the tips of mine that might be helpful for anyone of you.

Tools:
1. rubber gloves
2. your favorite cleaners (mine is Comet & Ajax, first and currently or before and then)
3. mask (some cleaners contain strong chemical, ex: Kaboom, it would make you hard to breath and nosebleed like I got)
4. brushes and scrubber

Steps:
1.Spray water on the walls above the tub and around the tub.
2.Apply the cleaner step by step to bathroom surfaces including the walls. (See the cleaning directions below)
3. Let the cleaner stand up to 2-3 minutes to cut through tough stains.
4. Rub surfaces with scrub brush.
When scrubbing, pay special attention to the corners of the tub, the tiles and the area around the drain, where soap scum and dirt tend to build up. Also, look for evidence of a bathtub ring, the ring of dirt and stains that forms around the edges of the tub, which will require extra time and scrubbing
5. Rinse well. Scrub away the remaining soap scum with a sponge. Wipe and rinse again.
6. Repeat to each part of surfaces (See the cleaning directions below)

The Cleaning Directions

I prefer to start cleaning from the shower area and keep going opposite to clockwise counter as seen in the picture. In case your shower area on the left side, keep going on clockwise counter. With this way of direction I set up myself, I need a little effort to clean the whole part of bathtub without requiring lots of scrubbing to get the stains rid off.
Good tricks!!
