Feel At Home
Thursday, October 27, 2005
The weather is getting better now after two days raining so badly. It's chilly out there but it's ok for me at least not getting that nasty wet again. The weather channel people said the Hurricane Wilma which hit Southern Florida pretty badly had affected a big rain in north-east area, too. The weird thing is the cold weather stays in temperature about 40s which is uncommon during the Fall. I feel like getting early winter nowadays. I wonder how does it feel like when the real winter is coming. I know for sure the temperature could be worse than last year, but my question is how long it will last?First thing came up into my mind to get through this freezing- chilly-day is spicy food especially Indonesian authentic dishes. Well, it's right to say that I do feeling homesick. However, I am pretty sure many of you who are not native Americans feel the same I do some of the time. It could be homesick for family, relatives, friends, neighborhood, hometown restaurants and foods without question. In my case, I do have one specific drug to heal me out of this homesick pain. Yes, cooking my own native foods is the best solution to get my homesickness gone away.
That day I was dying to eat Indonesian fruit salads with spicy peanut sauce (rujak), so I cooked it the whole plate and eat them up alone. Same thing with spicy tuna and devil eggs, I ate them up alone for 2 days in a row.
The other meal I cooked was nachos which is definitely not a food from my home country because it originally came from Mexico. I used to eat this kind of food in Hard Rock cafe together with friends whose I hung out sometimes in the evening after working out at gym. Some other time I did it with office mates on our lunch break, surely because the cafe is located nearby our office and needed only a short walk to get there. Our favorite menu in this cafe was nothing but nachos (plus ice-cream brownies).
Not intending to bragging myself again, I should say I didn't take this nachos recipe from anywhere but myself, of course using my chef-sense too. Well, this was a second time trial I did actually but first try didn't come out as good as the second one. Not even 5 minutes, that nachos was gone halfway (see the picture at right). Yes, both my husband and I loved this nachos very much and kept eating them without any break until they were entirely gone.
