Review: The Apprentice - Martha
Episode 6
Each team was to work with four celebrity dog owners to negotiate a personal experience with each of them and their dogs that would be sold at the Beneful Celebrity Dog Auction to raise money for a charity called "Broadway Barks," which is devoted to homeless dogs and providing funds for New York animal shelters. The winning team would be the one that raised the most money.
As the result, Matchstick under Marcela the PM brought in a total of $40,350, meanwhile Primarius leaded by wacky Jim collected a total of $44,100. The most contribution to Primarius came from Fran Drescher package that went for $28,000! Wow! I can't believe somebody put up such a huge money just to dating with Fran's dog (and the star also).
Primarius had been lucky to have a famous celebrity like Fran Drescher (the Nanny star) in raising that fund, otherwise they would have been lost far behind Matchstick. If they were losing, I prefer Jim to get fired considering his wacky-irritating-behavior. He is too annoying, talking too much, highly arrogant, and too bragging. Unfortunately Martha asked Dave from Matchstick team to get home at the end of the show because he is not experienced enough and has no skill to sell the products. Well, she should have known from beginning that Dave is a quiet and calm person who are good behind the table and running a business under his computer-internet-expertise. So, what's the reason she had hired him as a candidate? Now I question this competition is it about selling or leading?
Episode 5
Each team was to create a limited edition salad dressing for Wishbone, along with its packaging. The team that sold the most at one of two Stew Leonard's locations would be the winner.
Primarius came up with their new salad dressing invention "Asian Vinaigrette" priced at $3.99 a bottle, while Matchstick arrived at a "Rosemary Lime Vinaigrette" with selling price $3.49 a bottle. The bottom-line result is Primarius sold 391 bottles for a total of $1560.09 and Matchstick sold 453 bottles for a total of $1580.97 that brought the team to as a winner of the day by a slim margin of only 20 dollars.
Between Jim vs Jennifer the 2 potential-fired-candidates to be, Martha said Jennifer as a team leader was not able to take charge due to Jim's irritating behavior during the selling and she was not able to defend herself or her position very well. So, she was sent home at the end. Isn't that odd somebody gets fired just because of less-talk and lack of arguing skill particularly when she has to face a weird-talking dominant person like Jim? If I were Martha, I would cut off a flamboyant Jim because he was obviously complained by the customer and brought a bad image about the product by telling customers "That salad dressing is good for foot massage." Before taking her decision, Martha and her executives discussed about Jennifer's incapability to sell the products. Again, is the competition about selling or leading?
